Summer learning journey

  1. Kia ora Mahina,

My name is Rachel and I am working with the Summer Learning Journey team this summer. It is so exciting to see that you have joined us and already completed so many activities! I really hope that you will continue to work your way through the activities and that you will enjoy learning all about New Zealand as you go!

I will check back very soon to see if you have had time to post more activities. In the meantime, I have really enjoyed reading all about Tane Manhuta and your hometown of Auckland. I also live in Auckland and feel very lucky to call it home. I was born and raised in Canada and moved here eight years ago. I am still getting used to the warm winters and the lack of snow fall in December. At home, we are usually skiing and skating in December but here in Auckland it is warm enough to go swimming! Speaking of swimming, do you enjoy going to the pool or beach for a swim? I am thinking of taking my son, Aronui, to the local pool soon for a swim. It is one of his favourite things to do!

He also loves to blog and to work on his Chromebook. We have been talking about how to be a smart digital citizen recently as he is just learning all about it. For Day 1, Week 1, Activity #3 in the Summer Learning Journey programme we are asking you to list different ways that you can be a smart citizen and leave a positive digital footprint. It would be great if you could go into your presentation and, for this activity, add some ideas about how to leave a positive footprint. At the moment, the activity doesn't have enough information about this to earn full points. I would really like to be able to give you the full 10 points for this activity. Can you please adjust your slide #4 to tell us more about being Cybersmart?

Thanks so much, Mahina. I will look forward to reading more of your work over the coming weeks!

    Cheers,
    Rachel

  2. Kia ora Mahina,

Happy New Year and welcome to the Summer Learning Journey. It is incredible to see that you have posted a full weeks worth of activities into your google slides presentation. What a great idea. It might be easier to post a google slide presentation with each of the three activities per day. This makes it easier for our team to keep up with you and post comment on every of the activities that you complete.

I absolutely agree with you. Auckland is such a vibrant city with plenty of activities to do. I love exploring our beautiful parks and mountains, visiting the hundreds of markets that happen over the weekends, enjoying our golden beaches, or experiencing the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Congratulations, I will award you full points for this activity, "North and South".

It is incredible that you have read all 15 activities and posted information about them all. Because you have put in so much effort to get through all 15, I will be awarding half points. However, many of the activities you posted did not fully answer the question. For example, above, Rachel has come through and reworded the question for the Week 1, Day 1, Activity 3. This may help you work out what the activity has asked you to do.

Please re-read the questions and create a new post for each day. This way we can encourage and support you by commenting on each activity that you complete. I can then also award you full points for every activity that you do.

I cannot wait to see more quality posts from you, Mahina.

    Nga mihi,
    Megan :)
